Dr. Vijayalakshmi Deshmane, an expert in surgical oncology and former Director of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Bangalore, has been nominated as the President of the Karnataka Cancer Society. Recently, she was appointed as the Chairperson of IIIT Kottayam by the President of India. Additionally, she serves as the President of Abalashrama, a shelter for needy young girls in Bangalore. Dr. Deshmane has received numerous honors and awards, including the Mahila Shiromani Award in 2005 from the International Integrity Peace and Friendship Society in Bangalore, a Gold Medal in 2004 from the International Study Circle, the Rashtriya Rattan Award in 2004 from the International Study Circle, the Rashtriya Gaurav Shiromani Award in 2004 from the International Integrity Peace and Friendship Society in Bangalore, the International Medical Excellence Award in 2004 from the International Study Circle, another Gold Medal in 2003 from the International Study Circle, the Woman of the Year award in 1999 from the American Biographical Institute in the USA, and the Kalash Award in 1998 from the Rotary Group in recognition of her outstanding service in the field of cancer.
