A distinguished surgical oncologist and former director of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Banglore. She currently serves as the President of the Karnataka Cancer Society and was recently appointed Chairperson of IIIT Kottayam by the President of India. She also leads Abalashrama, a shelter for underprivileged girls in Banglore. Dr.Vijayalakshmi has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Mahila Shiromani Award, Rashtriya Rattan Award, International Medical Excellence Award and Women of the Year (USA) recognizing her outstanding contributions to cancer care and social service.
